If you fall off your horse you can wallow in remorse and self pity. But the longer you do this the further your horse gallops ahead, and the longer it will take you to catch up to it again. Furthermore, these feelings of unworthiness and failure can lead to some unsavoury lifestyle habits; addictions to sense gratifications, a longing to feel pleasure and self-love expressed through excessive sexual activity or intoxication. Alternatively, as you suggest, one might abandon the narrow path in favour of the wide one.

Either way, being negative and despondent about your discrepancies on the spiritual path is pointless and unfruitful.

It's a sound and remarkably positive instruction. Better to jump straight back on and keep riding. Thanks for the heads-up (pun intended) Maharaja.

Bravo. Thanks for another great article. I haven't reached the 11th Canto yet, but your reference describes my situation and determination exactly. It's vrey satisfying to see it validated by Krishna.

Also I was unsuccessfully looking for that statement about not being resentful of the injunctions, and there it is. Who says Krishna doesn't help the struggling, aspiring devotees? Hare Krishna.
